Yahoo Messenger is still at it’s best. I spend most of my day on the phone and communicating with my work place, so this tool has become a necessity to me. And since it is a whole different medium than what most people are used to, it is not easy to master it. So when a favorite client contacts me with an annoying message: “I was disconnected from yahoo messenger…” I’m in trouble. While it takes time to learn this medium, it is a medium you can excel in. You may have to tweak the settings and get used to the controls, but it is worth the effort.

What I do, is make a folder named “Messenger” in my outlook. In the folder, I put my contacts from Yahoo Messenger. I just type in their user name or their actual contacts list and it is like magic, it gets added to the new folder. This way I can search for them quickly and contact them immediately. While many clients may even have a group or call list, I have been using my contact list for quite sometime now. I put all my work related numbers in this list. And since most don’t have instant messaging integrated in their system, I use the Yahoo Messenger to talk to my clients.

That is also the reason I don’t really use my cell phone except for urgent calls. Why take the time to dial a land line number when you have a hands-free system with your laptop? And I don’t hesitate to talk to my clients on the phone. It shows good customer service, and it is not that expensive on my expense report.

If you are thinking to use a more sophisticated computerized phone, please search for “free online calling software”. I use Instant Message Pro, and I love it. Only thing I can’t understand is why we don’t have some sort of group calls. I’m with cell phone for emergencies, but for communication, I will be looking for a better place than cell phones.

Life is just too short to be taken for granted. If you want to take care of yourself, be a better person, take care of others, its all good. But, there is no time to say “I’ll handle it”. In the end, you will have to be the one to say “I can’t

Do jQuery plugins that deal with the DOM implement (or mimic) the native approach?

I understand that jQuery apps can feel a lot like native apps in some ways. For instance, there are many built-in methods in jQuery like.append() and.children(), which work with the native DOM elements.
So if I were to use a jQuery plugin like jQuery Validate or jQuery Mobile, does this mean I’m mimicking the native approach to the DOM?
And if so, what are the pros and cons of this approach?

This a very broad question and I’ll try to answer in a general manner.
Numerous jQuery plugins and their authors think that they are doing (and often mimicing) native DOM programming because of performance. This is at least one of the main reasons why they use jQuery but not the native DOM, even though it is very easy to use in very many ways the native DOM in jQuery. This is a big part of it.
Another reason is that their authors (and especially jQuery core) have been pushing the DOM for years; and some parts are still quite experimental in the native DOM. jQuery Plugin authors take the time to make their plugins work and last a bit longer as their authors don’t have to struggle with the native DOM.
Then there’s a lot of plugins that mimic old features and work in a way that makes sense in the old days (or even in an old version of JavaScript), but these days are never implemented correctly or don’t work anymore.
And there’s also a lot of plugins that simply don’t have to do with the native DOM. We all know that using jQuery’s.innerHTML attribute is not the same as using the native DOM’s.innerHTML property. So there’s quite a lot of plugins that have to work around this and mimic the native DOM rather than running the text through a parser for typesetting or inserting the text in a table.
And many tutorials claim that this is the native approach, but it’s often times just the old ways.
There’s a bunch of other reasons: read more.

Yes and no. There are plugins that use the DOM as it is, in a similar fashion to native programming using the DOM, but most just look at and work with the “under the hood” elements of the DOM, with little or no actual DOM programming. There are also plugins that provide the jQuery functionality of addEventListener, DOM events,
